The safety and health record of a firm is an indication of their corporate responsibility. The information you gather will help you assess what kind of firm they are, and may be important in a public campaign. The deteriorating health and safety conditions in Bridgestone/Firestone’s facilities were a major part of the contract campaign by the Steelworkers.
Publicly traded firms must disclose any significant safety and health issues on their Annual Information Form (AIF) at SEDAR, and in their corporate annual report.
While there is no central database of health and safety violations in Canada, the Newsroom” of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety provides information on substantial fines. This information is also compiled by Yow. Canada.
A Canadian News Search may also supplement what you find on the CCOHS web site. Serious accidents or injuries are newsworthy.
